Al-Sharaa confers with Jordanian counterpart, UN chief

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Sharaa on Tuesday received Jordan's Foreign Minister Abdul Elah al-Khatib in New York. Talks dealt with the Arab situation and bilateral relations between the two countries.

Present at the meeting were the Syrian and Jordanian permanent representatives at the UN, Mikhael Wahba and Hassan Abu Na'mah, respectively.

In the afternoon, al-Sharaa met with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Talks dealt with the peace process on all tracks. Stress was placed on linking the Syrian and Lebanese tracks "in order to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the region."

Al-Sharaa also met with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Towfiq Zulfiqarov. The two ministers reviewed the international situation and bilateral relations.
