Originally published

The Amnesty International organization denounced yesterday the violations of human rights committed by extremist groups in Egypt. The organization's report stated that hundreds of civilians in Egypt were assassinated due to the violence used by extremist groups for achieving their political goals.

The report noted the groups' lack of attention to the killing of civilians, saying that while some groups have promised to stop using violence, "Amnesty International remains seriously concerned that these statements have not specifically addressed the issue of killing civilians. "

Amnesty International also called on the Egyptian government to practice its responsibility seriously in protecting civilians within the law.

The organization's statement said it is necessary to respect human rights to put an end to the violence in Egypt. The statement accused the Islamic Group (al-Gama'a al-Islamiya) of violating human rights during recent years, referring to the deliberate killing of hundreds of civilians due to their faiths and nationalities.

The statement also referred to the operation of the Islamic Group during the past five years against tourists and tourist areas in Egypt, clarifying the involvement of the group and El-Jihad organization attempted killings against writers, reporters university professors and several public personalities due to their condemnations of these extremist groups.

The statement warned of continuing violence in Egypt, calling all armed groups in Egypt to "respect minimum human rights and humanitarian standards, and specifically the right to life."
