Report: Turkey to take diplomatic and economic measures against Syria

Originally published

The Turkish Istanbul daily Mellit said that the supreme commission in Turkey will discuss this week taking a series of diplomatic and economic measures against Syria, who Ankara accuses of backing the Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK).

The paper quoted government sources as saying that the Turkish national Security Council, which includes highest military-men and civilians in the country is expected to issue a strong warning to Damascus following its monthly meeting on Wednesday.

The sources added that Ankara is also expected to send an official complaint to NATO and to the UN on the alleged Syrian support to the separatists of the PKK, which is outlawed and considered a terrorist organization in Turkey.

Last week, the commander of the Turkish land forces told military units positioned near the Syrian borders said that Damascus continues to provide shelter for officials of Kurdish separatist organizations despite "repeated warnings."
