Former Spanish premier calls for Europe's enhanced support to Morocco

Originally published

Former Spanish Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez called on Europe to grant more significant support to Morocco which has "a strong stature" and a "typical flexibility" of countries located at the crossroads of civilizations and cultures.

He told Moroccan tv channel "2M" that these assets are "a strong capital" on the eve of the 21st century.

Gonzalez, who took part in a conference on Morocco held by "The Economist" weekly paper, said Europeans are not fully aware of the importance of topics debated during the encounter.

The European Union is Morocco's main trade partner, absorbing nearly 64 percent of its exports. More than half of Morocco's imports come from Europe, which also accounts for nearly 70 percent of foreign direct investment in Morocco.
