Dori Chamoun becomes third candidate for Lebanese presidency

Originally published

Dori Chamoun, the head of the Lebanese National Liberal Party and the son of former Lebanese President Kamil Chamoun announced yesterday his self-nomination for the presidential elections that will take place in Lebanon in the coming month.

Chamoun became the third candidate in these elections, which are to take place in the next month to find a successor for outgoing Lebanese President Elias Hrawi, whose term ends on November 23.

The other two candidates are Butros Harb and Rashid Khazan, both members of Lebanon's Parliament.

Lebanese Army leader Emil Lahoud is also considered a chief contender for the position, although a constitutional amendment would be required to clear the way for his candidacy, as public employees cannot run for office.
