Children mortality in Morocco is down
Infant mortality in Morocco went down from 91 per 1,000 in 1980 to 36.6 per 1,000 in 1997 and fecundity rate diminished from 5.9 per woman in 1980 to 3.1 in 1997.
According to Moroccan health minister, Abdelouahed El Fassi, the health of married women in procreating age has also improved in the same period.
The minister who was talking at a workshop held in Marrakesh on consolidation of reproductive health programs, ascribed these good results to the prevalence of contraception. He added that the rate of contraception use went up from 19 percent in 1980 to 59 percent in 1997.
Life expectancy in Morocco increased from 65 to 67.9 and mothers mortality went down from 332 death cases for each 10,000 births in 1992 to 228 in 1997.
