Syrian delegation visiting Iraq
A Syrian delegation that includes the head of the treaties department in the Foreign Ministry, Mohammed Said, arrived in Baghdad yesterday to coordinate the two states' positions toward Turkey's water policy and its effect on Syria and Iraq.
Informed sources stated that the Syrian Foreign Ministry will soon send a second invitation to Turkey to convening the meetings of the technical committee concerning water, which held its last meeting in 1992.
The sources said that the official invitation will be sent in light of the statements of the Turkish minister of states for the water affairs, Saleh Yedrom, that his country is ready to convene the Turkish - Syrian - Iraqi technical committee to discuss water issues without preconditions.
Turkey had not positively replied to three previous invitations to resume water talks. The last official invitation was sent to Ankara on January 19.
