Morocco to set up human rights training center
The Moroccan Human Rights Minister announced Sunday that Morocco will create shortly a national center for human rights training, documentation and information in cooperation with the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Mohamed Aujjar told the "African Human Rights Camp," which opened in Rabat, that the center will aim at promoting human rights culture and consolidating training for civil servants in charge of law enforcement, teachers and executives of NGOs operating in the field of human rights.
"Through the creation of the center, we hope to contribute to the promotion of the human rights culture not only in Morocco but in the Arab and African region as well," Aujjar said.
The African Human Rights Camp (AHRC) is a three-week long intensive training course in human rights, designed for people working in the field of human rights education in Africa. The AHRC is held annually, the first one took place in South Africa in 1995, the second in Zimbabwe and the third in Ghana.
The encounter, co-sponsored by the Human Rights Institute of South Africa "HURISA" and the Moroccan Human Rights Organization (OMDH), seeks to increase the knowledge of participants of basic human rights concepts, discuss the practical implementation of human rights in different environments, facilitate the exchange of experiences in the field of human rights training and education.
