Kuwait calls on Arab petroleum ministers to discuss price increase

Originally published

The ministers of petroleum and energy from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar will begin a meeting today in Kuwait to discuss supporting petroleum prices and launching new reductions in petroleum production.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Minister of Petroleum Sheikh Saud Nasser al-Sabah called on the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and other members of OPEC to coordinate efforts to deal with the reduction in petroleum prices before the organization's meetings begin on November 25.

The United Arab Emirates' petroleum minister said that he will not be able to attend the meeting. A Gulf source confirmed that Kuwait suggested holding the meeting between September 19 and 23 so the UAE minister could attend, but the reasons for holding the meeting currently were not given.

Kuwait Times said the UAE minister will visit Kuwait on September 23 for separate talks.
