Jezzine town in south Lebanon stages sit-in against militia permits
The Lebanese people of Jezzine in south Lebanon on Sunday staged a sit-in in the town square in front of churches, in protest against measures taken by the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army there and acts carried out against the people of the neighboring area.
News reports from Jezzine said the town's priests called on the people not to surrender to the SLA's conditions, and urged them to reject taxes and compulsory conscription and travel permits.
During the two-hour sit-in, leaflets calling on the people of the town not to carry militia permits even if they had to remain housebound were circulated.
News reports indicated that SLA forces set up checkpoints at crossroads, and imposed a siege around the churches where the sit-in was staged.
