Gaddafi accuses US and Britain of lying

Originally published

Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi accused the U.S.A and Britain of attempting to use the trial of the Libyan suspects in the 1988 Lockerbie Pan Am jet bombing as a method to deport the two men to the United Kingdom.

In a speech he delivered on the 29th anniversary of the Libyan September revolution, he said that "Libya is ready to deliver its suspects citizens to Holland immediately," yet he made conditions requiring guarantees that they will remain there regardless of the result of their trial.

Libya wants to negotiate to obtain confirmation that its citizens will not be delivered to Britain if they are convicted, but the U.S. excluded holding any negotiations and demanded the immediate delivery of the suspects without conditions.

Colonel Gaddafi said that the U.S. and Britain will not accept the idea of trying them in the Hague, but they are using the trial as a pretext to deliver the men to Britain.
