Originally published

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, ISESCO, based in Rabat, will hold in Dakar this September 7 a regional workshop on the modernization of Arab-Islamic education in non-Arabic speaking member states.

According to an ISESCO statement, education experts from seven African countries will take part in the workshop designed to support efforts made in field by ISESCO's African Member States.

The countries participating in the workshop are: Senegal, Mali, Burkina-Faso Benin, Niger, Chad and Sierra-Leone.

ISESCO says the workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to acquire new skills and expertise in developing modern school curricula and in modernizing teaching and training techniques. It will equally enable them to make the curricula of Arab-Islamic schools complementary to the curricula of the general education system in their own countries.

The workshop, due to last until September 11, 1998, is held in collaboration with the Senegalese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.
