Originally published

A representative of the United Nations Development Program "UNDP" in Morocco said the UN body will continue to assist Morocco in its efforts to combat poverty and improve living standards of rural population.

In a statement to Moroccan "L'Opinion" daily, the UN official voiced satisfaction over the various UNDP programs in Morocco for the integration of women, struggle against illiteracy and increase girls' schooling.

These programs, he said, seek to sustain Morocco's socio-economic development process and promote the actions of NGOs and civil society.

The UNDP representative added that Morocco has become the major partner and recipient of the UN technical and financial assistance which allowed the lower Moroccan social layer to launch their own micro-businesses, improve management and depend on themselves in their everyday life.

He also said that UNDP has contributed within the frame of its human and social mission, to lowering poverty and illiteracy and improving reproduction health both in the rural and urban areas.
