Israel assassinates Amal member, wounds civilians
The Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday intensified their aggressive acts against South Lebanon, targeting civilians and public properties including a direct attack against a political figure.
A Lebanese security source said that a Lebanese citizen was assassinated when two Israeli helicopters attacked, using missiles, a car driven by citizen Husam al-Amin, a prominent figure from the Amal movement, south of Tyre. Lebanese security sources said that three rounds of Katyusha missiles, totaling 40 missiles, were fired between 9 and 10 pm last night as a retaliatory attack by the Lebanese resistance against Israeli locations. Israeli papers said some 13 persons in Nahariya and Kiryat Shmona were injured.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes raided Ein al-Tineh town in the western Bekaa. Lebanese security sources said the planes fired air-to-surface missiles at the town. At the same time Israeli helicopters were carrying out mopping-up operations in al-Jabbour and Abu Rashid hills. The sources added that the raid and the mopping-up operations resulted in the wounding of four Lebanese civilians including a child.
The Lebanese sources added that within the space of two hours, between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. more than 60 shells were fired at al-Mashghara town. The bombardment resulted in damaging several houses and destroying a number of cars.
Lebanese resistance forces detonated an explosive charge under an armored vehicle used by the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army on the road to Toumat Neiha. The explosion resulted in killing or wounding all occupants of the vehicle. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said that its forces attacked the said position and were able to achieve direct hits.
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces expanded their attacks on areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon and its western Bekaa. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery bombarded on Tuesday afternoon the residential areas in Mashghara town in the western Bekaa. The bombardment resulted in damaging several houses. The Israeli bombardment covered Ein al-Tineh town where several houses and cars were damaged.
Further news reports coming from south Lebanon said the Israeli occupation forces were put in a state of alert after the assassination of the Lebanese resistance leader. The sources added that Israeli forces carried out random mopping-up operations in the area, while the Israeli warships sailed in the south Lebanese waters.
Israeli naval forces also seized a trade ship coming from Hamburg to Tyre carrying second hand cars to traders.
