Egyptian Labor Party delegation in Sudan for moral support
A delegation from the Egyptian opposition Labor Party headed to Khartoum under the chairmanship of Ibrahim Shokri to express public solidarity with Sudan against last week's US attacks.
Shokri told ArabicNews.com before leaving today that his visit to Sudan comes -- like his visit to Tripoli after the US attack on Libya in 1986 -- to express "our siding with the Sudanese people."
Shokri described US President Bill Clinton as an irrational person and a liar who mixed his personal reactions and his political behavior.
Other Egyptian and regional organizations also stated their opposition to the attacks.
The committee for foreign and Arab affairs and national security in the Egyptian Consultation Council stated in a statement issued yesterday concerning the US military strikes against targets in Sudan and Afghanistan that terrorism must be dealt with within the principles of international law and the United Nations charter.
The committee said there are steps and procedures that could be followed in treating elements of terrorism and the countries that support it, starting with diplomatic pressure and economic sanctions, then military action in the cases needed.
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights condemned in a statement issued yesterday the military strikes directed by the U.S.A against Sudan and Afghanistan.
The Arab Laborers Union condemned in a statement the American attacks on Sudan and Afghanistan and resorting to military methods instead of legal and diplomatic means to solve the disputes.
