Jordanian water crisis causes imports Saudi water

Originally published

The Jordanian minister of supply will start distributing bottles of mineral water from Saudi Arabia for sale in the capital Amman at the same price as the domestic product as a contribution to alleviate the water problem afflicting the country.

Jordanian officials spoke today to ArabicNews.com of the importance of the availability of the mineral water from Saudi Arabia, which arrived yesterday and was checked as a routine procedure. The water will be distributed in governmental commercial centers to be sold to citizens who were affected in west Amman by the local water that has been polluted by Algae and other contaminents, and could not obtain domestic mineral water due to the increased demand for it.

Jordanian sources said the scarceness of domestic mineral water in the markets, prompted the Ministry of Supply to import nearly a million bottles of mineral water from Saudi Arabia to compensate for the shortage, adding that the government did not allow the private sector to import these goods.

The sources said the importing process is a temporary step by the government until the crisis is solved.
