Severity of famine increases in southern Sudan

Originally published

As the situation in southern Sudan continues to deteriorate due to the spread of famine, humanitarian workers in southern Sudan said that Wau city, which is completely controlled by the Sudanese government, has viewed during the last week the arrival of 700 persons who desperately need foodstuffs daily, due to the severe famine.

The employees also said that many of those who came to Wau city were in a very bad state of health and suffer from emaciation, having gone for weeks without food which obliged them to eat the leaves of trees on their way.

Relief agencies established temporary restaurants in Wau city, in which they will present food to the famine victims.
