Originally published

The Jerusalem (Al-Quds) Committee appointed Palestinian Ambassador to Morocco, Wajih Hassan Al Qassim (Abu Marwan) as director of the Jerusalem Fund.

The committee, which wound up Thursday a two-day session, endorsed the trusteeship committee of the fund, made up of Morocco and the state of Palestine as permanent members, Saudi Arabia representing the Arab world, Iran representing Asia, and Senegal representing Africa.

These three members will sit on the trusteeship committee for three years after which they will be replaced by new members.

The fund was set up during the Jerusalem Committee's 16th session, held in March 1997 in Rabat. It seeks to preserve the Arab and Islamic heritage in the city of Jerusalem.

The Committee called on the Jerusalem Fund to take steps to start discharging its duties as specified in its status, including the collection of donations and the possibility of issuing bonds in accordance with the provisions of Islamic Law.
