Tunis hosts first Arab conference for fighting terrorism
Deliberations of the first Arab conference for officials responsible for fighting terrorism in the Arab states ministries of the interior started today in Tunis. The conference is being held after the council of the Arab ministers of the Interior has approved in its 15th session a three-year plan to carry out an Arab strategy to fight terrorism.
The plan states that the council's general secretariat will convene an annual meeting for officials responsible for fighting terrorism to study common issues, to maintain coordination between plans to confront terrorist acts and following up its implementation.
Participants in the meeting held during Monday's closed-door meetings heard studies which detailed the issue of terrorism. Tomorrow the conferees will conclude recommendations that will be submitted to the conference of the Arab ministers of the interior due to be held in Amman in January, 1999.
