A call for convening a new national reconciliation in Algeria.
Eight prominent Algerian political figures have called for convening a national reconciliation meeting with all political forces without any exception, in order to end the current crisis, with the results to be presented to the "popular will" later in a free referendum, where the results would be implemented.
In a statement signed yesterday, these political figures confirmed that the peace will be achieved by political, not military means, respecting individual and collective liberties, releasing political prisoners, lifting up the state of emergency and supporting all victims of national problems.
Former Algerian President Ahmed Ben Bella, former National Liberation Front leader Abdel-Hamid Mahdy, lawyer Ali Yehia Abdel Nour, former parliament head Abdul-Aziz Belkhadem, and secretary-general of the Movement Party Khaled Ben Ismael, have all signed the statement for democracy, in addition to second-in-command of the prohibited Islamic Salvation Front Abd El-Kader Hashami and Said Morsi, a former member of the Hamas party.
