73 Algerian citizens killed in recent days
Algerian sources said that at least 73 Algerian citizens, mostly Islamist extremists, were killed in the last few days and that 60 Armed Islamic Group members were shot in a jungle in northeast Algeria in a six-day military operation.
The government lays the responsibility for violence in Algeria on Islamist extremists, but human rights groups inside and outside the country stirred suspicions concerning who committed the massacres, due to which nearly 1,000 persons were killed since the beginning of last month. The government denies these reports.
