Originally published

Syrian sources said that an Israeli Knesset "draft law" sending any withdrawal from the Golan or other territories under Israeli law to referendums by the public and the Knesset, which would require a majority of 61 votes of a possible 120 votes for approval, amounts to a announcement of war against the region, the peace process and the whole world.

The sources added that the of Israeli Knesset resolution, which has passed through a preliminary vote but faces three more votes, is a provocative and hostile step that violates all laws, including international laws, and contradicts with all human principals and customs.

The sources also said that the decision is not only against Syria and the Palestinian nation but against the whole world, especially against the United Nations and the peace process sponsor, meaning the U.S. which has lost much of its credibility in Middle East due its stances towards Israel and its inability to fulfill its pledge to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Meanwhile, Syrian sources told ArabicNews.com that Israel refused a French attempt to convince Israel to resume negotiations with Syria.

The sources said that French President Jacques Chirac sent an official, the manger of the Middle East and North Africa departments in the French Foreign Ministry Jean Claude Coseran, to Israel at the end of last month, and Coseran presented a suggestion to the Israelis that Israel resume negotiations on the Syrian track.

The sources added, "France is resuming finding ways to revive the Syrian - Israeli track," while also supporting the Paelstinian - Israeli peace track.
