US's Welch tries to revive Ankara peace process.

Originally published

Iraqi Kurdish sources said that US envoy David Welch, principal deputy assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs, will work to revive the Ankara peace process between the Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), in addition to other issues within resuming this process, such as ending the military presence of the Kurdish Labor Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan area of Iraq and the influence of implementing the oil for food plan and the general situation in Iraq and its northern regions.

The US delegation was visiting Iraq, where they met with the two main factional leaders, Masoud Barzani from the KDP on Saturday and Jalal Talabani from the PUK yesterday, to achieve reconciliation between them.

None of the parties said that any progress resulted from the US mission in the Iraqi area.
