Moroccan opposition criticizes the presentation of the budget

Originally published

The presentation of the first budget draft from Prime Minister Abderrahman al-Youssoufi's government before the Moroccan parliament, aroused a debate among the opposition parties who felt that the presentation of the financial draft law was made within an unconstitutional frame.

Sources in the opposition said that the draft budget did not take the recent constitutional amendment into consideration, which created a second chamber in the parliament.

Then the minister in charge of relations with Parliament, Mohammed Bu Zawebh, replied saying that the draft budget has been made within the constitutional framework because all the basic conditions for ratifying this law have been met, adding that the requirements of the constitution distinguish between the voting on a financial law and the presentation of the draft budget law to the Deputies Council.

He also added that item 62 of the constitution pointed out that the prime minister has the right to present draft laws.
