French envoy to visit Cairo to arrange for peace-saving conference
Egyptian - French consultations to hold an international conference for saving the peace process, an idea which emerged from a joint initiative announced by French President Jacques Chirac and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Paris last month, will be held in Cairo this week.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa announced that a high-ranking French envoy will visit Cairo to discuss the arrangements surrounding the mechanism to implement the initiative of holding the conference in case the US initiative fails to achieve West Bank redeployment.
Informed sources told ArabicNews.com that consultations will evaluate the current situation within the US position and Washington's concern with not announcing its formal initiative. It also suggested holding a conference in Paris as soon as possible to prevent Israel from making use of the US election campaigns as a delaying tactic.
