Damascus: the cheapest city for tourists

Originally published

The annual report on living expenditures in 150 cities around the world, issued by the Corporate Resources Group in Geneva said Damascus is the least expensive city in the Middle East for tourists.

The report said that New York, which is considered the reference, came before Tehran (26), Amman (29), Abu Dhabi (30) and then Riyadh, Kuwait, Jeddah and Dubai (42). Both Beirut and Damascus come at the end of the list for the Middle East cities occupying positions 78 and 71 respectively.

The report noted that this sequence was based on local prices at the beginning of March for almost 200 commodity items and services that reflect the needs of foreigners more than local citizens.
