Arab legislators renew support of Morocco's rights over 2 Spanish-occupied cities

Originally published

The Arab Parliamentary Union renewed on Saturday its unconditional support for Morocco's endeavors to recover two cities occupied by Spain, Sebta and Melilia and the Jaafarine islands.

At the end of their eighth conference in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the Arab legislators invited Arab countries to help Morocco recover its sovereignty over the two northern Morocco cities.

They also condemned the Israeli decision to expand its authority over Jerusalem and rejected any decision that would alter the status of the holy city, its political status, demographic structure and civilizational legacy, Map reported.

After condemning the Israeli attempts to judaize Jerusalem and hamper the peace process, they launched a call to make of the Middle East a mass destruction weapons-free region.

The Arab legislators urged for a rapid lifting of the embargo against Libya and for an end to the sufferings of the Iraqi people.

Regarding other Arab issues, they decided that each national parliament will prepare for the colloquy on the Arab common market slated for 1999 in Beirut and for the harmonization of laws in the Arab world. A legal commission will meet this year in Damascus to design the practical measures to facilitate the harmonization of Arab laws.

The union also adopted a strategy for the promotion of education, communication and the preservation of Arab identity.
