Originally published

Dr Abdul Salam al-Majali, the Jordanian prime minister, denied in a statement yesterday to the Qatari newspaper El-Watan his country's objection to convening the suggested Arab summit in Damascus, saying that what was reported in the this matter has nothing to do with the truth.

He added, "Jordan is for any Arab meeting whether in Damascus or in any Arab capital."

He said, "There are Arab efforts and endeavors for convening the summit," and added that his country has participated in these efforts without making a condition against convening it in Damascus, confirming the importance of having an agreement, coordination and a prepared agenda for this summit to guarantee its success.

About US pressures for preventing this summit, Majali said that he does not know about these pressures, adding that convening the summit depends on the Arab leaders.
