Non-proliferation treaty to be discussed in the Middle East this week
The meetings of the technical committee to set up the draft of the non-proliferation treaty for Middle East will begin on Monday at the Arab League headquarters.
Official sources at the Arab League told ArabicNews.com that the technical committee will discuss during its coming meeting three main topics, at the top of which is examining the mechanism for inspecting countries' commitment to the treaty, set up by a multilateral committee of Arab experts, that will supervise the treaty when it is about to be implemented.
The sources added that the draft treaty will tackle the peace process and methods of clearing the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction, which is obstructed by Israel because the latter refuses to join the non-proliferation treaty.
The sources confirmed that Israel's goal of refusing to join the treaty or launch any regional arrangements for evacuating the region is to use the card of nuclear weapons against the Arab states within the current negotiations.
