General mobilization announced in Sudan

The Sudanese authorities announced yesterday that he is instituting a general military mobilization after battles between the Sudanese army and rebel forces in the South. Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir called for all who are capable of carrying weapons to join the army.

The general coordinator for the national service, Osma El-Hassan, confirmed that more than 100,000 students who have completed their secondary education and about 150,000 employees will begin on Saturday military training according to the obligatory service system in effect since May 1997.
