Women's issues take center stage at Arab League
The meetings of the 23rd session of the consultative technical committee for Arab women began on Monday at Arab League headquarters. Delegations from Arab countries representing organizations concerned with women's and family affairs participated in the meeting.
Ambassador Dao Swidan, the AL's assistant secretary-general for social affairs, said that the committee will discuss over four days a number of issues pertaining to women, including a review of the organizations' efforts and the efforts of the ministerial council for developing families and women. The committee will also discuss the celebration of the Arab Family Day on December 7 every year, which is the day of the Palestinian upheaval.
Swidan added that the committee will follow up on countries' adherence to cooperation after the 1995 women's summit in Peking. It will also discuss the implementation of the agreement for combating all forms of discrimination against women and Arabs.
