Pope John Paul II confers with Iraqi deputy Premier

John Paul II today received Iraqi Deputy Premier Tariq Aziz, who requested support to lift U.N. economic sanctions imposed on Iraq. A spokesman for the Vatican said that talks dealt with the situation in the Middle East, especially in Iraq which still suffers the adverse consequences of the sanctions.
