Trial for officers accused of negligence in Luxor attack
The high disciplinary court in Egypt has specified the June 14 as the date it will hand down judgment on two Luxor police officers; General Medhat El-Shanawani, the previous manager of the board directors of Luxor's police; and his deputy, General Abu El-Ata Yousef.
The men are accused of not making an adequate security plan, allowing the bloody incident that took place in Luxor late last year in which 62 tourists and Egyptian citizens were killed.
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak was angered by the incident and he described the security at that time as buffoonery. He also discharged the minister of interior, General Hassan El-Alfi, on the same day.
That this is the first time that such high ranking officers have been presented for trail due to negligence.
