Yemeni opposition calls for investigating bloody confrontations
Yemeni opposition parties on Tuesday condemned the bloody confrontations that erupted today between demonstrators and security forces in Hadramout province where one citizen was reported killed and another two wounded. In a statement, the Yemeni Socialist party said the behavior of the security forces is irresponsible and illogical.
One Yemeni citizen was killed and two others were shot and wounded on Monday by Yemeni policemen who were trying to disperse a demonstration in the southern Hadramout province.
A citizen from al-Mukalla, the main city in Hadramout province said, "The police today opened fire on some 200 demonstrators in the city who were protesting convictions against 13 former Southern Yemeni leaders." Another eyewitness said: "One Yemeni citizen was killed and two were wounded by policemen firing in retaliation to stones thrown by the demonstrators." Well-informed sources said two police-men were wounded as a result of the confrontation.
Meantime, al-Rabitah (league) party denounced the bloody confrontation when the authorities' security forces savagely challenged the demonstrators, and several innocents were killed as a result. It called for "investigations to punish the criminals who committed this brutal crime."
