GCC institutes environment prize

Originally published

"A Gulf Cooperation Council environment prize has been instituted," a Saudi official said.

His announced follows a decision by GCC ministers responsible for the environment on the need to recognize efforts to conserve the Gulf environment and protect its resources in order to provide a sound basis for sustainable development.

The prize was intended to encourage both individual and collective initiatives, in four categories. An award of SR 50,000 will be given for the best GCC environmental research project, together with a shield and a certificate of merit. A SR 30,000 prize will go to the best environmentally-friendly invention or innovation, together with a shield and a certificate of merit.

A shield and a certificate of merit will be awarded for the best individual contribution to the environment, while a shield and certificate of merit will be awarded for the most environmentally-friendly GCC industrial establishment.
