Egyptian council tackles women's rights
Members of the Egyptian Consultation Council called for encouraging women's political participation, for granting Egyptian citizenship to sons of women who married foreigners, and for not differentiating between men and women in job advertisements.
This came during discussions by the members of the report "Women's Participation in Public Life".
Soad Kamel, a member of the consultation council, spoke of the importance of granting Egyptian citizenship to children of Egyptian mothers married to foreigners.
Kamel expressed her opposition to granting citizenship to children of Egyptian fathers and not giving the same privilege to children of Egyptian mothers. She stated that continuing this differentiation contradicts the recommendations of the second women's conference, held in Egypt.
