Washington speaks of narrowed disputes with Damascus

Originally published

The Syrian daily al-Baath on Monday quoted US ambassador in Damascus Christopher Ross as saying that relations between Syria and the US "have become clear and disputes narrowed" in recent years.

In a ceremony held in his honor by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Suleiman Haddad on the occasion of ending his term of office in Damascus, Ross said "Bilateral issues between Syria and the US have become clearer during the past six years and disputes have been narrowed as well."

He added that the US government "understands the background of the Syrian position and its logic, especially those pertaining to bilateral relations or regional issues." He continued to say, "Damascus and Washington are committing themselves to joint efforts for a just and comprehensive peace in the region, regardless to difficulties,'' al-Nahar reported.
