Jordan's Crown Prince visits Palestine and Israel

Originally published

In the course of efforts by Jordan to retrack the Middle East peace process, particularly between the Israelis and Palestinians, Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan will visit Ramallah where he will meet with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

Government sources in Amman said Crown Prince Hassan will start Jordan's initiative in that regard. "The visit is due to the continuous coordination between Jordan and Palestine," he said. The prince is to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East with Arafat.

The two leaders will focus on the peace process, the obstacles hindering it and current efforts made to overcome them, the source stated.

"Crown Prince Hassan is also to visit Tel-Aviv and meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," a governmental source in Amman told reporters. "They are to discuss the current developments of the peace process, the impediments it faces and the methods to control them." The source said they would focus on efforts underway to push the peace process forward.

Jordan's efforts to encourage the concerned sides to revive direct peace negotiations and to implement previous agreements coincide with the similar initiatives by the USA and the EU.
