Gulf foreign ministers to meet, Iraq to top agenda

Originally published

Foreign ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council countries will convene in Riyadh on Saturday to discuss the recent developments in the Gulf region, the results of official talks between member states and European officials, and activating the peace process. The situation in Iraq is at the top of the council's agenda.

The ministers will discuss GCC relations with Iran after the visit of the former Iranian president, Hashemi Rafsanjani, to Saudi Arabia which achieved great positive results, without ignoring the UAE - Iran dispute over three Gulf islands: Greater and Lesser Tunb and Abu Mousa.

The secretary-general of the GCC, Jamil al-Hujeilan, presented a detailed report on his meeting with officials from France and Britain on the Iraqi crisis with UN.

Hujeilan expressed the GCC's concern for the people of Iraq, and said the implementation of the raqi agreement with the UN is a way to ease the sufferings of the Iraqi people and end the sanctions imposed upon Iraq due its 1990 attack on Kuwait.
