While consultations proceed at the UN Security Council awaiting the approval of a resolution that opens the way for implementing the accord signed between the UN and Baghdad, a collective funeral was held on Monday for 33 Iraqi children, who died as a result of the medicine shortage due to sanctions imposed on Iraq.

The funeral composed of relatives of the victims and members of the Iraqi national council and staged Baghdad's downtown streets and stopped at the doors of the UNDP offices where the crowded people chanted " down with the US repression," and "There is not God but God and the US is the enemy of the God."

The children's funerals were loaded on cars and wrapped with white textiles with each of them the name of the child and his age.

Doctor Sultan al-Shawi who took part in the funeral ceremony said that "some 50 children die every day in Baghdad only because of the sanctions and number of children who die all over Iraq every day is 250 and that one million Iraqi children dies so far since the sanctions were imposed." al-Nahar daily reported.
