Lebanese President inaugurates Higher education regional conference

Originally published

Lebanese President Elias Hrawi on Monday called for improving Arab life and uprooting the causes of recession and decay, stating that the current age requires greater awareness.

Upon inaugurating deliberations of the Arab Regional Conference for higher education at UNESCO palace in Beirut, the Lebanese President said he wondered how Arabs could accept Israel's violation of international resolutions at a time when it occupies Arab lands, violates Arab sovereignty and attacks Lebanese citizens in south Lebanon and the Western Bekaa.

Hrawi called for proceeding forward in setting up the common Arab market, noting that higher education is responsible for making changes for a better and more stable humanity.

He said that being held in Beirut, this conference on higher education will be a remarkable opportunity to upgrade the higher education in Lebanon, the Arab states and the world as a whole so as to achieve the objectives of democracy, peace and development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Lebanese Premier, Parliament speaker, UNESCO's secretary-general, and Arab ministers of higher education.
