EC president against striking Iraq

President of the European Commission Jacques Santer warned against the grave consequences of any US military strike against Iraq, calling for the need to make use of all diplomatic means to settle the current crisis.

In a statement he made on Friday to Monte Carlo radio, Santer stressed the EU 's support for Annan's visit to Baghdad, describing the visit as very important to reaching a peaceful solution.
