Jordanian officials confer with Swedish FM
Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Salam al-Majali on Sunday discussed with Swedish Foreign Minister Lena Hjelm-Wallen conditions in the region, especially the peace process, the current Iraq crisis, and bilateral relations.
During the meeting, al-Majali said he hoped international efforts would also work toward eliminating the stalemate in the peace process and convincing the Israeli government to abide by agreements it signed.
He called for uniting international efforts to avert military action against Iraq and to solve the Iraqi crisis.
Following the meeting, the Swedish minister expressed pessimism over the deadlocked peace process. Concerning the Iraqi crisis the minister said Sweden and Jordan are eager to avoid military action against Iraq, saying there is still enough time for further diplomatic efforts to serve to this end.
A similar meeting was also held between the Swedish FM and her Jordanian counterpart Fayez al-Tarauneh during which they talked about means of restarting the peace process and the need to find a peaceful settlement to the Iraqi crisis.
