Sudanese government closes Palestinian Hamas center

Originally published

The Sudanese government closed a Khartoum center for the Palestine Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, before the center began operating.

Sudanese officials said the center had been approved as a press center, which would have been responsible for transferring Sudanese news to the rest of the world in addition to reporting on the political activities of Hamas.

The National Press and Publication Council had approved the center and Hamas provided it with up-to-date equipment.

A Sudanese official said the closure came in response to the international developments Sudan is facing, as Sudan is applying an open door policy with the rest of the world.

The closure was concurrent with a change of the Islamic revolutionary tone.

The center was set up by the Palestinian Aqsa Center, a subdivision of Hamas in Khartoum, and that the closure did not include that center.
