Jordanian speaker discusses Arabian Parliamentary Union conference

Originally published

Upon arriving at Queen Alia airport in Amman, Said Hayil Serour, the speaker of the Jordanian parliament said the extraordinary conference of Arabian Parliamentary Union held recently in Luxor, Egypt discussed terrorism, which hinders democracy and development everywhere.

"The conference issued several resolutions, the most important of which was to discard terrorism and confront it firmly by all means," al-Sirur said. "The Arab parliamentarians laid the foundation for a mechanism, so that resistance of terrorism will become an international law."

He said the conference followed that of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunis, which decided on a certain machinery to combat terrorism.

"This will be followed by the conference of Arab Justice Ministers who are due to pass laws regarding this subject later this year," he added.

"The final resolution clarified the necessity to distinguish between terrorist acts and the right to defend peoples' interests, their self-determination and gaining of their legal rights." he said. "The conference also discussed terrorism that faces some Arab regions, particularly Algeria."
