Shaath: Palestinian economy in danger
The Palestinian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation warned against the continuing deterioration of the Palestinian economy which may endanger the peace process.
He said that complicating the security measures by Israel reflected negatively on the performance of the Palestinian economy, which experienced a disturbing decline as the current budge deficit reached more than $112.2 million and the aggregate deficit reached $352.2 million.
Shaath added that private investment started to leave the Palestinian territories as a result of the Israeli constraints which made it difficult to have commercial transactions inside Palestine due to the blockade and the illegitimate Israeli practices.
He also said deposits in Palestinian banks are estimated at $2.5 billion, but they have no exchange market to work through.
