Galal el-Said elected chairman of Moroccan parliament's second chamber
Dr. Mohammed Galal El-Said, the previous parliament's chairman and a prominent member in the Constitutional Union party, was elected as the speaker of the second chamber of the Moroccan parliament, receiving 160 votes.
His competitor Bader El-Din El-Snousi, the candidate of the liberal National Assembly party, won 71 votes.
The votes came predominately from the Constitutional Union which succeeded in attracting votes of center parties, a goal the liberals failed to achieve.
Sources said that the opposing Independence Party did not agree to the Socialist Union's call that they vote for the liberal candidates or refuse participation in voting.
