Yemen denies harboring Egyptian terrorists

Originally published

Yemen denied the existence of 500 Egyptian terrorists on its territories and said, "It has nothing to do with truth. We do not have any terrorists of any nationality."

Mohammed Arab, the Yemeni minister of interior, said that the Egyptian ministry of interior did not present to Yemen the names of the wanted which it suspects may be in Yemen and that the number to which the Egyptian newspapers referred to is exaggerated.

The Egyptian newspapers said last Wednesday that the Yemeni government agreed to deliver 500 terrorists to Egypt after the Lesser Bairmen, while Pakistan will deliver 200 terrorists. The exchanges were to take place within security agreements arranged by Egypt with Islamic and Arab countries.

The Yemeni minister of interior added, "It is not enough that any security department asks any country to deliver someone… it has to present enough information about the wanted person."

In a somewhat related issue, the minister also commented on the Kidnapings in Yemen saying, "We have an intensive security plan to prevent incidents of kidnapping foreigners," referring to a number of incidents in which Yemeni tribesmen have kidnapped foreigners to gain leverage in negotiations with the government. The most recent incident happened last week when three South Koreans were kidnapped, and later released.
