Specter optimistic over peace process

Upon arriving in Israel on Sunday from Damascus, US Senator Arlen Specter said that achieving a breakthrough in the peace process on the Israeli-Syrian track will be easier under current conditions than on the Israeli-Palestinian track.

Spector added that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad is concerned with resuming the peace process even amid the political conditions currently prevailing in Israel, Israeli radio reported.
