Stronger economic and trade ties between the US and Algeria
In spite of the unstable security situation in Algeria for many years, the USA and Algeria are trying to boost their ties in trade and industry.
The two countries are trying to increase the cooperation between US and Algerian businessmen. A Joint Chamber of Industry and Commerce was set up. The chairman of the Joint Chamber, Hamou Maghadir, stated that the Joint Chamber will be the bridge between the two countries for communication and planning new joint projects between businessmen from the two countries.
An Algerian source said that the volume of US investments in Algeria has increased greatly during the past years. The inauguration of the Joint Chamber was attended by Algerian Minister of Trade Bakhty Al Ayeb, the Minister of Light Industry Bokara Al Sultani and the US Ambassador in Algeria, in addition to a number of former US officials including the former Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney and Undersecretary of State for Middle East Affairs Robert Pelletreau.
Former US ambassador in Algeria Ronald Newman delivered a speech before the External Committee of the US Senate in which he said that US investments in Algeria reached $2 billion.
